Hi Laura, I am Joseph Nietlong, and come from Garkawa. I am thrilled reading the accounts of your visit. How true. I admire your ability to do that. Last year I spend my Christmas break drilling a bore hole in the village. I put few solar panels on the well and is now serving the community although I did it primarily for my mother. I am glad you were able to high-light the needs of the area. Thank you, and CRS, for all that you do for the people from my part of the world. ---Joseph Nietlong
I have created this BLOG site to share with my friends and family, my experiences and reflections, during my volunteer work experience in Nigeria, this past summer 2007. I traveled to Nigeria, July 12 to August 27 th to join up with a small non-profit organization in Nigeria, Global Relief, to learn more about their poverty reduction efforts and to lend a hand. This site is a collection of my thoughts, my experiences, my photographs, etc. from this past summer.
Please note that due to the blogging process, to follow correct chronological order, you must start reading from the OLDEST blogs to the recent. Remember - this is my experience, and my understanding of things I learnt - there may be other opinions, perspectives and/or truths in some instances.
I have left a lot of my experiences out of this blog - as blogging can be quite time consuming, and there is already ample pages here. This is only a taste of what my summer in Nigeria entailed. Thanks for your interest. Please feel free to comment.
